Thank you Ares for your description.
In this post, I will try to give you an idea of our team.

After we lost our attack superstar (Dica) this summer, our couch has been trying to put on a 4-1-4-1 lately.
Our winning eleven could be the following:

Goalie: Robinson Zapata (age 29) - the best goalkeeper Steaua had in the past 5+ years, a Colombian player who, in 2007, was the star of Deportivo Cucuta, reaching semifinals in Libertadores; he has also played for his national team lately;

Right back: Pawel Golanski (age 25) - Polish International player, he played at Euro 2008 for Poland but on the left side. He is a class player, he usually has a strong offensive play, with powerful long-distance shots.

Center: Mirel Radoi (age 27) - our leader, our captain, our symbol, a world class defender who had a lot of bad luck during his career (many injuries in key moments); he may not play against Galata, as Inter wants to transfer him these days. He plays for our national team.

Center: Dorin Goian (age 27) - a defender who scores a lot, with a fantastic header; he wasn't used in the last games because he is expected to leave (for Premier League), but if he doesn't leave, he will certainly be there for you. A corner kick for us is a half-goal with Goian there, for Steaua or Romania.

Left back: Petre Marin (age 34) - maybe the most experienced player of our team, he is a fine and constant player, with fine long-distance shots.

Defensive midfiender: Ovidiu Petre (age 26) - you know him, he played for Galata; he got much better since then (in our national team), but he's not playing his best football at the moment, after recovering from an injury.

Right wing: Janos Szekely (age 25) - our best transfer, an explosive and complete player, he's most likely the next solution for our national team for the right side of the attack. He will be a tough challenge for Galata, beware!

Center midfielder: Mihaita Plesan (age 25) - a complete midfielder, his best match was one for Romania, against Germany (5-1). He is a big hope for us, but hasn't fully confirmed yet.

Center midfielder: Dayro Moreno (age 22) - our star, the Colombian big hope, he beat Argentina by himself for World Cup 2010 Qualifiers. He is a striker, he won Libertadores with Once Caldas (in 2004) and last season he scored 16 goals in 16 matches for that team. Although he is a natural born striker, our coach tries to use him as a playmaker.

Left wing: Razvan Ochirosii (age 19) - a Romanian big hope, but still an unexperienced player. This position may be taken by Banel Nicolita (age 23), who you probably know from our national team (and from the famous own-goal on Santiago Bernabeu), a limited player, poorly skilled, but with good defensive contribution. Or, better, Juan Carlos Toja (age 23), our latest transfer, a skilled Colombian player from Dallas, a star of the Major Soccer League.

Forward: Arthuro (age 25) - a tall Brazilian striker transferred after scoring 10 goals in Segunda Division for Cordoba. Another option is Bogdan Stancu, a very promising young striker (but he plays as midfielder lately). Stancu and Ochirosii are the big hopes of our under-21 national team (age 21).

Unfortunately, this 4-1-4-1 does not seem very suitable for our current team, as we have very good strikers (Dayro Moreno and Bogdan Stancu) that our coach uses as midfielders.

About the draw... the worst options for us would have been Atletico, then Dinamo Kiev and then Galatasaray.

Our poor performance last year in UCL has multiple reasons and it does not reflect the capabilities of our team (for example Slavia was much weaker than us but still managed to take 4 points for us - anyone who saw the matches understands what I mean). The owner George Becali and his stupid ideas produced pressure and influenced our team in a bad way.

Another question mark and maybe weakness of our team is Marius Lacatus, our legendary player (like Hagi or Hakan Sukur for Galata), who hasn't proved himself a fine coach yet.

Anyway, if I were you, I wouldn't be very excited. I know your team and I can say that you are still behind Fenerbahce and equal to us. Anything can happen, but don't expect two easy legs because our team knows how to play critical matches and we have a lot of experience from UCL and Uefa Cup (where we reached semifinals two years ago).

Cheers!

:afro::soccer_h4h:

Yes indeed, baneliniho also κnown as Nicoliţă is a phenomenal player. Even though he's only 23, he has already made a name of himself scoring maybe the most incredible goal in the history of the Champions League two seasons ago on Santigo Bernabeu, in the clash between our team and Real Madrid.

Besides his unike football skills, baneliniho is a very charming man. All the girls in Romania have a crash on him because of his Brad Pitt's look. Furthermore he has impeccable manners. Rumour has it that his family has noble swedish roots. His swedish resemblance is obvious.

Sorin_g, thank you for describing your team,

well, I know it's not an easy draw, but thinking of Liverpool,Arsenal,Barcelona,Juventus, etc.
we can say it's a good draw.
Personally I didn't know any of your players, except Dica, whom I heard as a name, Nicolita, who was once or twice in the news as a possible transfer and Petre, who sucked at our team, I kinda was hoping of him to be a great player, but didn't have that luck...

As far as I can see, you have a lot of unproven players, who promise a lot but you get nothing from them...

About our team... our only weakness is injuries, if we didn't have injueries there would be no problem...

Our foreign players, have all played in at least one of the 5 major leagues...

Our domestic's excpet 2 or 3, are national team players in 3-4 different levels,

And the team spirit, which made us demolish Fenerbahce in the last 3 games, out of 4 we played against them last year...

We kept the champion squad...

We got rid of Song, who apparently was 37, and got Meira, the Stuttgart captain

Got an extra keeper, mostly remembered of his good performances at Udine, Morgan De Sanctis

And empowered the middlefield with Harry Kewell as a free transfer, and Ferdi Elmas and Aydin Yilmaz, two decent youngsters(we have high hopes at Yilmaz)

We got rid of the 37 year old legend Hakan Sukur, who wasn't showing great performances, and got a young promising attacker, Yaser Yildiz

We have Nonda Umit Karan and Yaser Yildiz for the only place as a Centre Forward

and we are going to get a classy striker, who will probably play in bucharest...

With our 2 remaining transfers, we will be better than Fenerbahce, as a squad...

we are a better TEAM than them, which resulted in being Champions

and we have more successes in our history,

You HAD a bright history, but not a team to be frightened of, we will be patient, not under-estimate, but we know that we are practically better than your team...

Thanks and respect

That's ignorant , you assume that your team is better due to the fact that Galata signed some big names , who by the way are past their primes ? dude , you shouldn't feel so lucky because one thing I know for sure...we may suck in our league , but when it comes on playing international ...we aren't an easy rock to break . I hope you will enjoy these two games as much as I will do

I wouldn't feel lucky at all. I think you underestimate our team and I have no idea why. I respect your team, even if I support Fener, and I hope we'll see some nice matches. Btw, I really like Istanbul, it's a really nice city and that grand canyon mall in levant is f*cking awesome.

"Hello friendly, to support of Steau Bucharest. In sorry first for the evil heard and insults of this morning of our supporters. We ultrAslan, to support them of Galatasaray, we respect you much. Of other with dimensions we have a grans respect for you. Because our players Celebrates, Hagi, Popescu, Rotariu played for you too. Especially for our commander Hagi, to support them to Us of Galatasaray evil will never say on you. For us you beings of the same team. When you play in Europe will know that we them Supporters de Galatasaray is concurrently to you. 2 years ago here when you were eleminated against the English team in half final in UEfa , we were disappointed too. For the end we are to discuss in any friend. Us let us not have another objective. i hope that you will respect us too. Let us come to the match. Galatasaray and Steaua Bucharest is not powerful like their past. We had had problems the latter years in Europe. You also since 2 years you summers not with the form which you want in Europe. But for today to say to the truth us more powerful than you. last year one built a new team and summons us become champions of Turkey in front of the fenerbahce which played the quarterfinal out of CL. Then will be necessary to imagine the force which we have. This year, our player wonderkid Hakan Sukur is more in out team. Song also go from Galatasaray but we had make very good transfers this year. Harry Kewell, Fernando Meira, the goalkeeper De Sanctis, you know it very very although is very good player which is known by the world. And before your match our leader test to buy very good attacking too. Already in our team of last year there were good players like Lincoln, Linderoth, Arda, Hassan Sas, Umit Karan, Nonda, Servet. This year in euro 2008 you had seen our national team. We had to play the half finale and lost last the second the finale. In this team very strong there were 8 players of Galatasaray Arda, Servet, Emre Asik, Mehmet Topal, Emre Gungor, Sabri, Ayhan and Hakan Balta. In euro 2008 especially, Servet Arda, Hakan Balta, Mehmet Topal and Sabri one makes a good championship and especially for the European level, they have to gain much experiment. Already Servet, Arda and Mehmet Topal are followed by large European team. Last the news stays for Mehmet Topal. Everton offered 9 m Dollar but refused by our president . Much club offered 15 m for Arda Turan but our president refused too. Arda is very talended player. For these players main road will be necessary always our high-speed motorboats known by the world Hassan Sas, Umit Karan and our foreign player Lincoln, Nonda and Linderoth. and for this year Kewell , De Sanctis and Meira. On the contrary Steaua sold Dica. Our only problem, for the moment one has much wounded player which will not pouront to play against you. If we did not have a casualty I could say that our chance to eliminate stays almost 85% to you. But I think our chance is 60-40. We summons more extremely compared to lower last year and you summers compared to last year . I think that will be 2 very hard match for the 2 teams but will be necessary to also accept that the favourites from these 2 match is absolutely Galatasaray. Us, has to say Supporter of Galatasaray, ultrAslan and our stadium Ali Sami Yen I v’ have same step to speak about it because you will also know it in 12 days. And you even go with your players which stage is a true hell. 25.000 lions, impassioned, unchained, heat will accomodate you in an environment very very hot and you can be on your players will say or we arrived. Galatasaray and especially are Stadium and is Supporters famous and is known by the world. Now has you to frighten us with the return match

yep I said, you were our 3rd or 4th priority,

Basel and Anderlecht were way easier, but some where really frightened that we'd be automatically eliminated by seeding a really big team, a fact that made us look underestimating your team.
The best I can hope for you is UEFA Cup, the final is in Istanbul, we will be waiting.

btw, I wouldn't prefer to play in Russia, they know to be bad opponents, ajax as well has it's name

Basel,Panathinaikos,Anderlecht,Spartak,Olympiakos, Glasgow would have been much easier opponents for you because you know what you're getting.Unfortunately for you guys, Steaua is pretty much an unknown team and we might surprise you (just how we did two years ago with Standard or 3 years ago when we reached an european semifinal) Well , you may not underestimate our team but I'm pretty sure your players are doing so

Past their primes?

yes and injury prone . Maybe this signings will work for you short-term but that's about it..you won't go anywhere with these players . If I would have to pick I would choose Dayro Moreno over Kewell everyday of the week and twice on Sunday , and keep in mind that I'm not arguing who is the better footballer at the moment , just who has more potential . For a team like yours or ours , a decent team yet not an elite one , it's better to look and develop young talents rather than go with washed-up players . I really like from your team Servet , it's one of my favourite players by the way

I know this is football, but I believe and THINK that we will win, your victory would be a surprise, but whatever happens success to your club too, I will be here after the matches also, to be or to congratulate

Good luck to you too

Overall, we only have two players that I would rate equal or better than Galata players: Radoi and Zapata. The rest are not that good, and are not in form right now, and our coach is by no means a masters of tactics and training.
I think Galata will win in Istanbul and there will be a draw in Bucharest.
Cheers to emre23 and ares_gs, it's nice to see we can have a polite discussion.
I agree, we are amongst the weakest teams in the seeded pot.
We had bad luck to be pitted against Galata.

Edit: Goian is also a very good player, and he is also a central defender. Overall we have a tough defense and crappy attack.

Well, as I said you were the 3rd or 4th priority,

basel and anderlecht, seemed to be more suitable than you, and pana in your level,

Olympiakos, every year reaches satisfactory results in europe, has a nice team, is a champion in greece, and is terribly strong in the home ground matches

Rangers are not a pretty decent team, but they reached somehow the final in Europe last year, which makes them decent,

You say SURPRISE, and that is what I say, because what normally should happen is our qualification, and yours would be a surprise, you will be the side expecting the surprise, and maybe you'll get it, but it is not our opinion,

About our players, they are taking your side really seriously, (much more than us I can say), you should see the interviews and you can see they are really serious about the clash...

By the way, do you really see Standart in the same level with us?!

yes and injury prone . Maybe this signings will work for you short-term but that's about it..you won't go anywhere with these players . I agree about injury prone, which is our only problem for now, but
we are not playing our game in long-term, we will play now, and for now we have pretty much better players, which im not going to argue

btw our rightback, leftback, one defender, left midlefield, libero, and right midlefield are youngsters, and we have lots and lots of young players in our team and academy, which produced and is producing the best turks now...

the players lke meira(30),kewell(29or 30), lincoln (29), de sanctis(31), nonda(31) and linderoth (29), are the experienced player who shall suit well, and teach the youngsters something, with a team full of 20 year olds, any great success is hard

Even if it was so, you are our opponent not Fenerbahce, :)

We are going to eliminate you, but still we love you only because of Hagi,Popescu,Filipescu, Ilie, Petre, Bratu, Tamas, Rotariu, etc.

And, we are better than Fenerbahce, Carlos is 35, he is useless now, and David, will not play for 4 months, they lost Aurelio, their brain, we are champions this year...

MickaelC
3rd August 2008, 10:11
I believe Galatasaray is now much more dangerous for Steaua than Fenerbahce, and I also think you have the first chance for winning the internal league. The biggest problem you might have is with the coach. Maybe he will be replaced after missing qualification in European competitions :) and you will get something better.

ares_gs

I think our coach depending on your criteria down there, will be with us for the next season.

Te Jubesc HAGI
3rd August 2008, 15:36
HI FRIENDS,

I didn`t follow the discussions fully until here, but I would like to say something about the cl-qualifying match Galatasaray vs. Steaua.
The level of the romanian football was always higher than the turkish football. But the turkish football increased his level espiacially starting from the late 80's. Since than the first international unexpected victories have been realised. Such as the Uefa Cup & Uefa Supercup by Galatasaray and the 3rd place of turkish national team in the WC2002 and EC2008.
On the otherside, romanian football didn't lost much of his level. Just the change of golden area with Hagi, Lacatus, Petrescu, Popescu and co. was really painfull for romanians. But the recovery didn't last so long. The success of the clubs in europe and the quality of the national team is now again belonging to the top level of europe.
I think two teams have both similarities in this country achievements. At any time when the national team of these both countries succeeded these two teams sent the most players to their national selections. Without being disrespecful to other teams, i.e. Besiktas, Fenerbahce or Dinamo, Rapid or others, these both clubs: Galatasaray and Steaua are the locomotives of their country football.
To the match, I think the chances are equal. There are many questions on both sides, which have to be clarified. On the Steaua side, the most important question is: How many top-players do they will sell to abroad until the match against Galatasaray? And on the Galatasaray side, what will happen with the injuries of Kewell, Linderoth, Servet and most importantly with Lincoln. If these ambiguities are clarified maybe than we can speak much more clearer about the chances of both teams.
we will see what happens...

MIREL6RADOI
3rd August 2008, 17:29
We might sale the "heart" of STEAUA: MIREL RADOI.It's very likely that the transfer will take place, because the team (Inter) who wants MIREL RADOI,has a long list of injuries. In case we use MIREL RADOI against Galatasaray, his price will fall..because he will not play anymore in the CL(this year 2008-09).

First of all, I understand there were a few losers who came onto this forum and posted stupid comments about Steaua the other day...as a Galatasaray fan, I'd like to apologize on behalf of all those who made these remarks. A true Galatasaray fan knows better than swearing at Hagi's team and his country. I for sure have always had huge respect for Steaua, and always will. And my respect for the Romanian fans were further confirmed when I watched the Romania-France game at EURO 08 in the middle of the Romanian fans section. We're very similar, almost the same in the way we show our passion for our teams...and I love that...long story short, I'd like to say good luck to Steaua in this tie, I don't think it's an easy draw for us, however I do think a win without conceding a goal in Istanbul should be enough to go through...all the best guys...

Money does not make the difference mate.
As you see Steaua had always a low balance and in the above mentioned
matches, the team with the lower budget won.
And according to the statistics ..the score should be written like this :
Galatasaray SK 0-3 Steaua FC
I respect your team, good blokes , that also have been capped for the EURO 2008 games.
So mate..
I wish you and to your lads best of luck andmay the best team win.

The Galatasaray does not renounce Oliveira (spanish media)
The Galatasaray continues to move the burden to Oliveira. This was acknowledged yesterday its sports director, Adnan Sezgin. "The Saragossa asked a lot of money and we now interrupted by purchasing negotiations." The turkish club also raises an assignment for one year, which would take over the card and pay up to 4 million by the loan. The Tokyo refuses to let out a resounding Oliveira - except Mareantes bid - because he has just renewed for one year and has contract until 2013.

ıf galatasaray signing ricardo oliveira 11.08.2008,ricardo oliveira playing second leg.

Both teams sucked.
Both teams scored goals after mistakes made by the opposition defence.
Galata got tired after 70 minutes and we were not able to win the match.
The chances are still 50-50, and the team who aill make less mistakes will go through.
I liked how the Galata fans treated Hagi, but i think they were wrong to whistle Steaua fans when they chanted Hagi's name.

http://www.setanta.com/en/TV-and-Entertainment/Entertainment/XI-at-11/xI-at-11-Great-European-grounds/

Great European grounds (English Media, not Turkish media)

1. Mestalla, Valencia
The Mestalla is far from the biggest ground in Spain with a capacity of only 55,000, but its steeply banked terraces rise out the ground like sheer rock faces. The masses packed into Real Madrid’s Bernabeu and Barcelona’s Camp Nou struggle to generate a fraction of the intensity seen at Valencia.

2. Anfield, Liverpool
Arguably the greatest player in Liverpool’s history is their famed 12th man. The Kop bellows its anthem from the depth of a collective heart which can terrify and inspire in equal measure. The Anfield atmosphere has pulled victories from the clutches of defeat on numerous occasions and turned dependable performers into quivering wrecks. John Terry admitted his Chelsea side were deeply affected by the sheer volume of noise during The Blues' Champions League semi-final three years ago and Terry’s troops must master their fear when they return to Merseyside on Tuesday night.

3. Stade Velodrome, Marseille
The French are not renowned for intimidating grounds, but the people of Marseille have a unique identity and enjoy a unique footballing experience. The Stade Velodrome holds 60,000 empassioned fans who turn the terraces into a giant mosh pit of bouncing bodies. There are plans to increase the capacity to 80,000 in the ***ure.

4. Ali Sami Yen Stadium, Galatasaray
‘Welcome to Hell’ read a string of banners that adorn the Ali Sami Yen Stadium and few would disagree. Galatasaray’s ground is a cauldron of hate and despite its meagre capacity of 22,500, the noise and intensity of the spite spitting from the stands is deafening.

5. Fratton Park, Portsmouth
A controversial choice, but the Pompey faithful have turned Fratton Park into one of the most atmospheric grounds in the country. Going to Fratton Park and out-singing the Pompey fans is an almost impossible task.

6. Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund
Dortmund’s recently renovated Westfalenstadion is the largest in Germany holding 80,000 fans. The stadium is easily the greatest atmosphere in the country and a tough place to go and get a result.

7. Celtic Park, Glasgow
Celtic and Rangers have one of the greatest rivalries in football, but when it comes to their grounds there is no competition. Celtic Park holds 60,00 Hoops fans who share not only an anthem, but also an atmosphere with Anfield.

8. Stadio Olimpico, Rome
Lazio, Roma and, on occasions, the Italian national team all share the Stadio Olimpico, one of the most impressive arenas in world football. A running track round the outside of a ground can often sound the atmosphere death knell, but this is certainly not the case in Rome.

9. The Karaiskaki Stadium, Olimpiacos, Athens
The Karaiskaki Stadium makes Olympiacos away a tough challenge. The ground is a theatre of flares, noise and 33,000 Athenian fans.

10. Feyenoord Stadion, Rotterdam
The Feyenoord Stadion, better known by its nickname De Kuip (The Tub) holds 55,000 fans who are a much more raucous bunch than their rivals in Amsterdam.

11. Söderstadion, Stockholm
An unexpected choice, Hammarby IF’s Söderstadion in Stockholm is the smallest of the featured stadiums holding only 15,600, but the fans make up for their lack of numbers with a lot of noise.

The "normal" chances are about 60-40 because we can qualify even with 0-0 or 1-1.

And Toja is playing for sure. Allthough he's at his third game, in the league match he showed some great skills. If he's growth from match to match keeps like from the first to second, you can expect a phenomenal left side(even from great European standards) with Toja and Dayro.

Not to mention RM Banel Nicolita... He's allready "Manchester rated" if he plays well and scores :))

Yeah both our teams have a long history together. And our best players were also your best players. Hagi ,Popescu, Adrian Ilie.
U didn't had Lacatus ,Dukadam , Bologni and Belodedici and that is why u didn't won the CL , only Uefa Cup :) Just a joke.

I didn't understand why if u have all that money , u cann't affortd a real coach and instead u bring all kind of semi-coaches on your bench. Since Lucescu u didn't had a real one. I do not understand how Zenit cand afford Advocaat and Galatasaray can't for example. And by the way. Fener made a big mistake. A national team coach isn't suited for a club. Is a total different job. Their mistake , your advantage only if u bring a real coach.

Finnaly. When we play as a team , random players on the field like your team cannot beat us. We lost in Ghencea only in front of perfect teams like Lyon , Real, Arsenal or Sevilla( Sevilla in verry good shape) and that only because the lack of experience in CL. I do not rembember the last time when we lost home with a team of your caliber. I think ... never in the last 20 years with no more than one goal in our net. That's why u are already out :D

I can show 2-3 romanian players on that site that costs 300-400k but in reality they are over 6-7 milion dollars and even like that they are not for sale.

The game against Galatasaray was tonight and Steaua won 1-0 qualifying for the 6th time in the Champions League group stage. Pedriel could not be used because he was not put on the players list sent to UEFA before the qualifying round with Galatasaray, but he will certainly be on the list for the group stage. We also have big expectations from him.

The match against galatasaray was played tonight (we won 1-0), but Pedriel couldn't play because he wasn't on the Uefa list, but also because it will take probably a few good days before he can adjust to the hour difference.
In 1-2 weeks he will probably be eligible to play.

Regarding the match against Galata, it was an even double and the team who scored more goals qualified for the group stages.
I hope the turkish fans will have the power to congratulate us and to tell us their side of the story.
Good luck in the Uefa Cup, they can reach the advanced stages with no problems.

you should know that picking 11 good players and putting them in the same team does not mean that the team will also be good ... it's about chemistry ... Steaua is a team, doesn't matter how good or bad you think the players are ... they're much better as a team that salatagaray ;)
as I said in this post, Kaiserispor is nothing compared to Steaua, Kewell may have played very well against them, but last night he hit the crossbar once, and then nothing for 90 minutes

that Nicolita thing was suposed to be a joke, but what do you know? he really was a danger

last night the big players from Galatasaray let the team down ... Lincoln, Nonda, Kewell, Arda, all had a bad game ... Steaua's players helped each other and didn't allow Galatasaray to be dangerous.

As for that transfermarkt.de site, can you see now how wrong they are? Radoi 2 mil euros? Yeah, sure ... more like 8
